Do you think this is a good idea for traveling across the country??? My plan is to buy a mini-van that's about 6 or 7 years old and has just over 100,000 miles on it (less, if possible). I don't want to spend more than $5,000 (hopefully less, like 2 or 3,000). Then I will take out one of the seats in back so I can have more room for storage and a place to sleep. I will also take a tent and air mattress. I want to drive across the country and sleep in the tent and sometimes even in the van, and maybe every once in a while in a motel if it's cheap enough. I will put up curtains that I can close off the entire back also if I want to. I have a navigation GPS device and I do have AAA if I need maps along the way. Also I will bring an electric cooler that acts like a fridge, and a camping stove (Coleman), plus my laptop with wi-fi. Where can I take showers? Someone told me truck stops let you take showers but how do I know which ones have showers??? I figure I will put like 10,000 miles on the mini-van and when I'm done, I'll sell the mini-van. that sounds like a plan to me. make sure the engine and trany is road worthy for the trip. showers you can take at camp grounds or any public bathroom, just with bathrooms use just a wash cloth and basically wipe down. a general cleaning. good luck and have fun.
