FAQ about Coastal Living Magazine

Can anyone help me find this painting? My mother's friend subscribes to the magazine called "Coastal Living". I was recently reading an issue of it when I came across a painting that really struck me. My mother's friend the magazine to me and I cut the picture out. Later, I foolishly mangled the picture so that it would fit into a scrapbook. I would really like to find a copy, image, or print of this painting. I don't have much information about it but here's what I do know: 1. The issue of "Coastal Living", that the painting was in, had to be a 2006 or 2007 issue. 2. The issue that the painting was in had colored pencils in a can on the cover. 3. I believe the artist's first name was John (that narrows it down doesn't it? Heh heh...) but I cannot recall his last name. 4. The painting was pictured on the wall of a house that was featured for a spectacular remodeling. I know its not much info, but any leads would be great. Here is a link to the mangled version: http://s899.photobucket.com/albums/ac196/NothingInParticular/?action=view¤t=Island.jpg The scan is sort of bad quality to... Sorry to make this so difficult. Please help! Hi! As their archives are only through 2008,

How can you eat shellfish? Prevention magazine of September, 1972, carried an interesting article entitled "Shellfish Are Dirty and Dangerous." The author appeared reluctant to take a stand, but he was committed to telling the truth on this sensitive subject. He wrote: "They're succulent; they're delicious; they're even nutritious. But, because of the nature of the mollusk and the sewage-like pollution of its habitat, we must in good conscience advise you to avoid shellfish, no matter how they tempt you, and even though those around you seem to be swallowing them with delight. The day of reckoning cometh. "Why are shellfish so dangerous? Because they are many times more polluted than the filthy waters they inhabit. "Unfortunately they choose to live and love and multiply in estuaries along coastal regions. These estuaries are particularly subject to discharge of sewage, sewage effluent, and other water-borne pollution from municipal discharges, from suburban home drainage and agricultural runoff. "The polluted aspect of their habitat is one danger. The fact that they are filter feeders compounds the danger. "Oysters, for instance, because of their way of obtaining and absorbing food, have been found to concentrate polio virus up to 20 to 60 times the level of the surrounding seawater. "No other animal food offered on the menu of your favorite eating place would be served to you along with its feces. Yet this is the case with seafood. It is served whole; complete with its intestinal tract." Can you imagine anyone finding such fare to be a culinary delicacy? Over and over again outbreaks of hepatitis have been traced to the eating of seafood. After feeding on raw sewage, the creatur is harvested and sold. The disease is simply cycled from man to mollusk and then back to man. So, knowing all this how can you continue to eat shellfish? Source: http://www.amazingfacts.org/items/Read_Media.asp?ID=618 Thats why I can't and Won't eat them XD

how come when your at your lowest, in deep depression, really going through it in life, everybody else appears? happy, fullfilled, contented, happily bouncing along in life in a ' light hearted way ' ? i have alot to feel angry, bitter, resentful about, iam a 30 year old borderline personality sufferer, ive known nothing but trauma. bullying, sexual abuse etc. ive never had a girlfriend or partner....never studied or been employed all due to my lifes problems. i have goals and hopes i.e to move back to europe build a new life, turn the chapter....get a job...find a partner, happiness, security, a comfortable home, live in a small coastal village etc.. things ive never had. but from the one bedroom flat in england, i feel hopeless, because i feel like i dont know how to get there...move towards that goal of leaving england...to build a new life. im at many disadvantages. ive feel ive become dependant and alone like im going it alone in life....which i litterally am. meanwhile, when i turn on the t.v...open a magazine, come on yahoo answers, browse myspace, everyone seems very happy , wearing huge grins, contented with their lives. while i feel all on my own, pushed out, and alianated in life. starting at a late stage of 30 at huge disadvantages. with big goals i dont know how to accomplish. Believe me my friend 80% or more of those smiling faces that you see day in and day out are all hiding gremlins of their own.
Different people deal with their emotions in differnet ways.
The worst of your problems is related to the sexual abuse. This is a subject that with all the best will in the world needs to be addressed by proper counseling. It is just about the most horrific thing that can happen to a human being.
Nothing you do will make it go away, BUT with proper counseling it will be made easier to deal with.
One thing for sure is that you have your head screwed on for realistic ideals (not ideas). However, what you do need to concentrate on is setting some priorities okay.
DO NOT try and achieve too many things at one time.
Take your time and choose the easiest to do first. The reason I say the easiest first is because they will be things that you can manage. When you do this, you will gain confidence faster because of your successes.
There are lot's of places you can go to just start interacting with people and talking about all kinds of positive things.
You will be surprised at just how much you will have in common with loads of other people.
See your doctor and get a refferal to a specialist to speak about the abuse, this is the most important one to get to grips with.
Your counseller will then put you in touch with small groups where you can integrate slowly and gain some confidence. You will also find that all of these people who have the same problems will be at different levels of self esteem due to group interaction. This will also gain you some very good friends who also know what you have been through because they have dealt with the same things.
You don't have anything at all to lose but a hell of a lot to gain.
Your dreams are nowhere near impossible my friend.
In your heart, you want them and that is the first few steps up the ladder because you can clearly see a picture of what your looking for.
GO FOR IT good luck and just keep the faith because you will get there.

im so depressed about ' big brother ' society , what can i do? recent news that the uk government will enforce new strict copyright laws on the net . ban anybody from the internet who downloads free music or film. - and on top of that, i am nearly 32 , endured a difficult life , faced many adversity - missed out on the normal life development , missed out on : building relationships - getting qualifications - being employed , and most other things. i have lived for 6 years in my own 1 bedroom apartment on disability benefits owning very few material possessions except a computer. i have various personality disorders , very difficult psychological struggles , relating to rage , anger, paranoia and anxiety - i am also pursuing a seperate psychiatric assesment for possible , co existing anxiety disorders. i am cooperating with exposure therapy before i can access psychotherapy because i have terrible agoraphobia and anxiety. i just dont see how i will ever achieve my goals in life - iam very worried.. it seems all very far out of reach , i have a prison record 11 years back for violence and assaults - been in a psychiatric hospital 11 years back to. - what am i going to do ? my housing association are becoming quite big brotherish, asking tenants to get involved in community schemes and volunteer with tenant helplines - the housing association publish a monthly magazine that looks all corporate and commercial. they make it look like their looking after tenants but it has big brother and new world order stamped all over it - their little community and tenant ' involement ' schemes. and on top of that, i constantly think about the dreams i still have. to get qualifications in computers and IT, and human behaviour psychology - to develop a few meaningful relationships , to move away from england to a quiet , peaceful, coastal village , poss in south france or northern spain. those are my hopes and ambitions - im not interested in anything else. it will be hard because, even though i have made improvements with self confidence , assertive skills etc , i still suffer from low confidence , are unsociable , introverted , private and aloof - want to carefully choose the relationships i have. is it hopeless ? what am i going to do in this rapidly changing big brother world ? i have simple good moral values . simple objectives and propositions . a straight forward agenda in this mad unbalanced planet. The big brother 1984 world may be a bit dramatic, yes the UK (Mainly England) is one of the most watched countries in the world, but i seriously doubt they will be able to ban EVERY single person who does file sharing from the internet, there are simply too many people. Also, the being in prison is a big strike against you, but people change, why not enroll in some classes at your local university? I realize you have extreme social anxiety which leaves you 2 choices.. suck it up and attend the classes, which will be very difficuly at first, but you need to learn breathing techniques and little stress relievers to get you through your day, or simply try and take the courses online. My Advice, keep your head on straight, set a goal and do it, you only have 1 life, why waste it by yourself and leaving no mark on this world?

How do you explain to a client that their expectations for professional photographic results are unrealistic? I am a contract photographer for a small company which takes photos of homes for sale. I strictly use on-camera flash simply because time equals money, and I wouldn't get paid for going the extra mile (and the extra hours it would take) anyway. Never have I had a complaint about my final product... and in fact, I often receive emails stating how much my company's clients like my 'work.' Except until this client. She has extremely unrealistic expectations. So unrealistic that she pointed to a Coastal Living magazine and demanded to the company owner that I shoot her model homes like so (and two of them actually HAVE been featured in this magazine... but the local paper is who paid for the shoot.) This woman has no idea how much work goes into one of these shoots and it certainly isn't worth the $60.00 she wants to pay. Bottom line, she gives us quite a bit of hassle yet lots of business. For some reason she keeps coming back. Nothing will please her, I suppose, unless she feels like cracking open her wallet... which she's already refused. My question is... how would you explain to someone who knows nothing about photography, that it is impossible to capture all the detail in both shadows and highlights with one on-camera flash? Actually I was going to mention HDR but I see fhotoace beat me to it.
Although off camera flash will light dark areas & even up the exposure differences between highlights & shadows, why not bracket for an HDR sequence? Won't take up much time & you be able to wring details out of the image.
I am in agreement though about the 'getting what you pay for' message - you (or your bosses) need to make it clear that her $60 gets exactly what she's got.

(living in China)... secrets, lies and Chinese sweatshops...? http://www.businessweek.com/magazine/content/06_48/b4011001.htm Tang Yinghong was caught in an impossible situation... for years, his employer, Ningbo Beifa Group, had prospered as a top supplier of pens, mechanical pencils, and highlighters to Wal-Mart Stores and other major retailers... and now auditors from Wal-Mart were about to inspect labor conditions at the factory... in the Chinese coastal city of Ningbo... Tang worked as an administrator in the factory... Wal-Mart had already on three occasions caught Beifa paying its 3,000 workers less than China's minimum wage... and violating overtime rules... under the U.S. chain's labor rules, a fourth offense would end the relationship... help arrived suddenly in the form of an unexpected phone call... from a man calling himself Lai Mingwei... the caller said he was with Shanghai Corporate Responsibility Management & Consulting Co... and for a $5,000 fee, he'd take care of Tang's Wal-Mart problem... he promised Tang that he could definitely get them a pass for the audit... Lai provided advice on how to create fake but authentic-looking records... and suggested that Beifa hustle any workers with grievances out of the factory on the day of the audit... the consultant also coached Beifa managers on what questions they could expect from Wal-Mart inspectors... the Beifa factory in Ningbo passed the audit... and the company didn't change any of its practices... and there's a surge of such unscrupulous consultants... who take the name suggesting they specialize in "corporate social responsibility"... and only thing they do is suggesting the means to evade the auditors... is there something that can be done to prevent this?... coz ultimate losers are the poor migrant workers... if this practice is allowed to continue... your thoughts?... I think being caught 4 times is before losing the contract is completely wrong. On the second trip they contract should be over. One time maybe but if not resolved before the second Wall-Mart should be fined by the US Government.

Is this a good holiday gift for the doctor that I work with? He is 34 and I bought the 3 other girls that I work w/ a gift box with choices of magazine subscriptions here's the list of magazines: Allure, Cosmopolitan, Details, Entertainment Weekly, Esquire, Essence,Glamour,Good Housekeeping,In Style,Oprah,People, People en EspaƱol, Real Simple, Women's Day,Cooking Light, Family Circle, Family Fun, Fitness, Food & Wine, Health, Men's Health, Parenting, Reader's Digest,Architectural Digest, Coastal Living, Cottage Living, Southern Living, Sunset, This Old House, Business 2.0, Fortune, Money, Smithsonian,The New Yorker, Time, Wired,Car and Driver, Field & Stream, Golf, Outdoor Life, PC Magazine, Photography, Popular Science, Runner's World Scrapbooks etc., Sports Illustrated, Travel + Leisure, and Travel + Leisure Golf. It seems to me like most of the magazines are for women. Do you think this is a good gift for a guy or what else should I get for him? I don't wanna give all the girls I work with one and then him wish he had gotten one. Yes I think so, just because they are women's magazine doesn't mean that there might be some good reading in them for him. Happy Holidays.

What is the style around where you live? It goes kind of like this. I was looking through a SEVENTEEN magazine at the bookstore, and saw the different styles of make-up, hair, and clothing worn throughout America. I live in San Diego, like, southern, coastal California. Everyone around me likes having straight hair, or proffesionally done curls, and nails are long and glossy. Also, the whole side-swept bangs thing, if you have bangs. Shoes are either converse, vans, running shoes, or skate shoes, and some of the prissy girls wear ballet flats. A popular hair color is reddish-orange, but lots of people are dying their hair unnatural colors. Shirts are either Forever 21 or normal t-shirts. Jeans are colored skinny jeans, or jeans that cover the feet. Some people wear shorts, but mostly cargo shorts. Everyone puts on make-up, but not in flamboyant tones. I just want to know about the styles in other parts of America. im in a smallish town in wisconsin. currently there are three very distinct styles in my town that are the most popular. there is the abercrombie and hollister crowd who dont seem to realize that those clothes are boring and played out (way more people used to wear them last year, im so glad fewer people are wearing them this year). there are the forever 21/buckle crowd (people who have obviously actually read a fashion magizine or two), and then there are still the scene kids who look like they have never heard of any store besides hot topic(some of them are wearing jeans so skinny it makes me wonder how they can actually walk)
i kinda have my own thing going on. im in one of the offshoot groups. i love heavy metal music but im a 23 year old woman who works in an office. so i have to find rocker clothes that are still business appropriate.

What should I choose if any of these were free?
