How can I get into Coastal Carolina University? In high school I was pretty lazy and had a 2.5 GPA and also scored 1100 on the SAT. I'm not starting college till the spring because of training for the army. I think at this moment I wouldn't get accepted into CCU, but is there a way I could go to another school for the spring semester then try and transfer to CCU in the summer and do summer classes there to catch up. I'm just trying really hard to get into CCU, please any suggestions. Do the best that you can in the subjects that you are taking./

How reputuable is the mathematics program at Coastal Carolina University? I am an honors math student looking to transfer to a 4yr school near Myrtle Beach. I would love your opinion of this school It's an OK school and an OK program. Class sizes aren't large compared to a lot of state universities and the department considers teaching to be their main purpose, so professors are encouraged to be accessible to students. That said, there are much better math departments out there. For instance, Duke, UNC, and NC State three hours away have good math programs, with different strengths at each school.

You can go to the beach year round but in January the average temperature is 56. The average rainfall in October is a little under 7 inches.

All new freshmen are required to take the math and foreign language placement tests. Foreign language tests are available for French, German, and Spanish. Students must take their placement tests on the Internet before attending Orientation.

I know it is college..and college consists of partying trust me I do my fare share of partying but I do have my head on straight. Now, I know a college student has to find the balance. Can anyone tell me about Coastal Carolina University? I'm planning on attending Coastal at the start of the 2008-09 school year. I wanted to know if it's a good school? What there is to do around the area? You know, just basic stuff a 18 (19 when I move in) year old guy would wanna know about the college, area, etc. I liked it fine - came to Myrtle Beach to go to college, graduated, and never left.
Coastal Carolina is a medium sized (8,000), suburban (Conway/Myrtle Beach), state (public) college in the tier 4. It used to be a commuter school and still has some of that feel. It's not any different than any other medium sized - tier 3/4 school out there.
"What there is to do..." the beach dude! It's Myrtle Beach. All of the things that tourists travel to Myrtle Beach for are here for the college student too. There's a pretty decent club scene and more than a little to see and do. In the off-season (which is when you go to school), jobs can be a touch hard to come by - this isn't the place to go if you have to earn a real living while you're in school. Plenty of waiter and retail jobs though.
That said, it's not NYC or Boston or DC -- there isn't as much "culture" to find and not nearly as many people.
Academics are good - I've not met anyone that wasn't able to go to grad school if they wanted after graduation. I met a lot of people over the years who failed out though - mostly because they came in thinking it'd be easy and were wrong. Many because they let the beach and scene keep them out of class.

if it says EA that means "early action," which is non-binding.
if it says ED that means "early decision," which IS binding.

Should I go to Arizona State University or Coastal Carolina University? I live in foxboro,massachusetts and have always wanted to go to asu and recently coastal carolina. Arizona State is the number 25 business school in the country, stanford is number 12 and sunny 340 days a year with the hottest girls and best parties in the country. Coastal is closer to home and in myrtle beach both are good schools for me. I'm a Coastal Carolina grad and I love my alma mater. I'm also "not from 'round here" and can tell you honestly that the general SC culture hasn't permeated Myrtle Beach. Fact is, not many here are from here and many don't even speak Southern.
That said, you're looking at #12, #25, and a tier 4 college.
You should attend the best college you can get into and afford that will help you most with your future. If you find that is CCU then "welcome to Myrtle Beach" -- I'm thinking you'll need some really good reasons to make CCU that choice.
Note: While the physical mailing address of CCU is Conway SC -- it's actually located between Conway and Myrtle Beach. 7 miles from the surf - on the main road in, is "at the beach" ☺

What is a better school? Roger Williams University or Coastal Carolina University? I am currently at Roger Williams University, and i was thinking of transferring. I am majoring in Business and i was wondering if it would make sense to transfer to Coastal Carolina next year. Coastal Carolina actually gets a very creditable "B" rating from the ACTA Education Foundation for Coastal's "General Education" requirements.
