Okay... so I'm pretty confused on what makes classic rock, classic rock...? When people think of classic rock, people think of the typical dadrock bands... Led Zeppelin The Cars The Doors The Beatles you know... the usual stuff. But would you consider bands like Can, Amon Duul II, or basically any "underground" band at the times of pre-1990. Because I don't ever see bands like those to be classified as "classic rock". But I would consider it rock still, and classic.. to an extent, if you catch my drift. I usually see "classic" underground bands being tagged as something literal (psychedelic, krautrock, ect. anything using subgenres). And not just straight up classic rock. Which doesn't really make much sense.. regardless, bands that have never had the spotlight that were around the same time of other bands that are now considered "classic rock" should also be considered "classic rock". If not, they should destroy the entire tag of classic rock, it's just a useless and misleading as "alternative rock". Honestly, why even bother have tags such as classic rock or alternative rock when they're are more literal terms that can describe bands in that same category. Is classic rock = whatever that's played on classic rock radio? MQ2: I was listening to the radio a while back.. it was the local classic rock radio station and you know... playing to normal stuff you would hear on it. Then it started to play 90's rock. I heard Nirvana, Green Day and Eels (which was a HUGE surprise hearing I Like Birds on the radio). So.. would you consider any form of rock in the 90's a classic? MQ3: In your opinion, how old does music have to be to be considered "classic rock"? BQ: buy or sell: Eels > Beck Others have gone in-depth here, so I'm just going to give the personal bit.
'classic Rock' (note the small 'c') are songs or bands that a majority consider to be classics.
'Classic Rock' (big 'c'), is a term I personally use to blanket cover Rock {and it's sub-genre} bands & artists who originated between 1964-1979.
Now, this can confuse people, because I use date of band origin, which means it includes all their songs, even those released recently.

MQ2: Not in the 'big 'c'' sense.
Bands who started 1980-1989 are '80s Rock', 1990-1999 are '90s Rock'.
The way radio stations use the term seems to mean anything older than 10-15 years.

Police spotlight mount on '57 Ford (thru fender not thru pillar)? Does anybody know how the spotlight was mounted on a '57 Ford police car? (See photo here: http://i729.photobucket.com/albums/ww300/GFC-911/spotlight.png) Modern ones mount through the pillar between the windshield and front door, but this mounts through fender under windshield due to wrap-around nature of windshield. If you were to mount a modern one this way, the control arm for it would go right through the dashboard! So... Where and how were the control arms mounted inside the vehicle? Was it some sort of curved mount, a cable system, or what? And where would the control handle have been located? Finally, any idea what make and model the light would be? Reason for asking: Restoring a classic '57 Ford to its glory days in the Illinois State Police, and want to install a proper, period-appropriate spotlight as part of the restoration. Gotta make it look "just right," y'know? Thanks!! It looks like the control handle is right between the vent chrome and the rear view mirror. It also looks like the whole thing is slanted downward slightly to go under the windsheild. I can't help but wonder is this was something done at the factory, because that looks like a lot of work for a government garage to do. It looks like there may be a chrome strip on the fender around the spotlight cradle. Have you contacted Ford about this? There may also be brochures on this floating around somewhere. About spot lights, I have two on my antique fire truck and I see these all over the place when the Auto Fair comes to Concord NC. It looks like you might need something longer than what I have. Mine are aprox 12 inches, if that is the control handle in the Baltimore picture, that control shaft would be almost 2 feet. The controls are not rocket science so I would think a good machinist could piece two together and make it work.

Question To Rap Listeners/Haters Alike? This goes out to everyone who also diss rap. I hear this whole thing over and over RAP:Retards Attempting Poetry. I find people use this as if they understand what it really means. Spoken word poetry over a rhythm. It was poetic and had meaning, it was easy to explain on the intellectual level. Now why is it that i hear all these people saying that songs like Candy Shop are rap? Anything MTV is clearly not real rap. I just read the cover of the magazine VIBE that said "Plies is the Future of Rap" and i thought to myself oh great.... There he was in that picture looking like everything i dispise about Mainstream rap (thats not real rap) typical dumbass wearing 5 chains, gold teeth all round (gold teeth look absolutely revolting IMO, that and "grills") looking like a badass. This is the future of rap? lol There is nothing poetic in any of these lyrics except rhymes. I've found that real rap, underground, and classic which are real and have a message are tossed meanwhile rap about money cars and blind is left in the spotlight... No wonder so many people hate it. My question (sorry for the long read) Is why is the real rap not listen to but this junk is? The only reason i even listen to mainstream is for beats in my car. Whats your opinon? Comments? But that would be narrow minded as well since..well they're both rap its just a personal preference of mine. And I'll get at each point in the order that you wrote it in.
First off, I've never, EVER heard someone say that about rap... the "Retards Attempting Poetry" I've never heard that before in my life. Did you hear that online or in real life? Nobody I know would say that, and I'm guessing that a white person coined that phrase. I'm not saying that as an insult, but just my opinion - I can't see a black person saying that. But whatever, I think that's stupid no matter who thought of it.
Second of all, I think you're being EXTREMELY narrow minded about the whole thing. Grandmaster Flash was a hip-hop pioneer, okay that's cool. But there are other hip-hop pioneers that didn't talk about intellectual things. Think like 2 Live Crew or NWA. They talked about topics that had to do with sex and violence, as did other rap groups I'm sure. If you like Grandmaster Flash, then listen to him and other similar artists all day rather than bothering yourself with the radio. The part where you are being narrow minded is by saying that rap that has to do with violence, drugs, chains, etc isn't rap. Just because you don't like it doesn't mean that it isn't rap music. Rap isn't defined by what the topic of the lyrics is. We all know what rap is when we hear it, and it doesn't have to be talking about something intellectual to be rap.
One thing that a lot of people (online people that I've seen on Y!A mostly) fail to realize is that all of the topics like women, cars, etc are legitimate topics. They are things that go on every single day and are part of the real world and real life. Just because it may not be a part of your reality or EVERYONE'S reality doesn't mean that it's not part of some people's reality. The simple fact of a song having a video on BET doesn't mean that it's not rap. It's just rap that YOU personally can't relate to and therefore don't like.
I want to say something, but I want to say it in the least offensive way possible because I'm really trying to discuss this (because I see this topic a lot on here). I just want to say that sometimes it feels like this whole "rappers have to be intellectual or they aren't real" idea is just another way white people are trying to take something that black people invented and make it their own. I'm not being racist, but I am being RACIAL. Because. White people don't really understand what it is to live in the hood or what kind of things come along with that. I think a lot of rap comes from hood experiences and things that young men have to deal with living in this kind of situation. Because most white people can't relate, they automatically think that the young black men out here are being ridiculous and obnoxious because they live that lifestyle of husting and whatever. And so when a black man starts rapping about whatever things go on in the hood, some white people automatically think that it is stupid because they can't even relate somewhat. The notion that all rap has to be about intellectual stuff just feels like another way of taking black culture and wanting it to be a certain way, when it's not anyone's call to make really. I'm not saying that because I am from the hood that I understand or relate to everything that these rappers say these days, but what I am saying is that rap just doesn't have to be intellectual all the time because life isn't all about intellect. I think some white people want to like rap and they actually do like rap but they maybe want to see black people doing better than to just dog women and things like that, and so they lean to the intellectual rap. But rap wasn't invented for that purpose. Rap is an expression of life and emotion just like any other music. How about if I said that Goth music isn't real if it talks about having suicidal thoughts and sadness? I would be wrong. I don't like Goth music though ... and why? Because I can't relate to it.
But nobody ever said rap had to be poetic anyway. There are no rules. I don't like Plies, and so I don't listen to him. I don't like Grandmaster Flash, I don't like Lil Wayne, I don't like RUN DMC, I don't like Hurricane Chris, lol. But that doesn't mean that any and all of those artists aren't real artists, and they are definitely all rappers whether we like them or not. Rap doesn't have to be eloquent, it doesn't have to be polite, it doesn't have to excuse itself for what it's seen, heard, or been through. It just is what it is.
