How to fit new car registration plates? I just got new car registration plates (legal with the euro symbol and GB). However I can't get the old plates off..... theres 2 domed caps on the side of each plate (presumably with screws underneath) which seem very reluctant to come off with a flatbladed screwdriver. Also my new plates don't have holes in them for fitting.... do I have to drill in the acrylic plate myself? Thanks. They are the same size, but cause theres a Euro symbol on the left, the number gets pushed slightly over to the right.... meaning the template of old plate.. well the new hole goes through the side of the final letter of my plate. I've messed up. hi mate the domed caps you refer to are normally plastic and using a hammer with you screwdriver show break them away with a light tap, you should then be able to remove any screws which hold the plate on, using your old plate as a template mark the holes on the new plate and cover them with clear celotape before drilling, this will help to stop the drill slipping and thus prevent scratches to your new plate

What can I do with my old car registration plates? I live in the UK and just bought some private reg plates with my initials on. I have fitted the new plates and it's all legal, done and dusted. But what do I do with the old plates please? When you move the personalised plate onto your next car and so all the relevant paperwork the DVLA will reuse the original plates for the old care.
My daughter scrapped her car with personal plates and the DVLA changed the number plate back to the old one and we put the personalised plate on retention so we can use it when the novelty of driving around with new car plates has worn off.
So keep them you will use then again unless the number for some reason has been sold on by the DVLA.

How many combinations of car registration plates in UK are made per year or half year? I'm after the statastic of how unique a car registration plate is compared to other unique facts. well lets see... how many letters are used in the first 2 letter things. I know that these represent the regestration place.... or something eg/ preston has PE, PN, PO so you need to see how many of those there are. Times that number by 26, then by 26 again and finally by another 26... If we assume that the other 2 letters are 'random' and we use all combinations (which I don't think we do... but whatever) then the total would be 26 to the power of 5... which is 11,881,376 so yeah!

Moving out of state - Car plates / registration question? I'm moving to Minnesota from Texas at the beginning of August. My TX car registration runs out in July as does my inspection. My old tags were expiring, and I just let them expire, then I got new ones. You'll have to get a new license plate probably within 30 days of moving to Minnesota. Renewing in Texas would just be a waste of money and time, so don't bother. License plate costs vary from state to state: some have a set fee while others base it on the value of your car. How do the English car registration plates work? (ie. how do you tell how old the car is?)? And what county it was registered in? In Ireland we have really simple ones. its Just something like : 98 D 1040 So that car was registered in 1998 in Dublin and it was the 1040th car to be registered. How do the English ones work? So who determines what letter represents each new year? And what do all the other letters stand for? Examples:
1981= W or X at end of plate
1982=X or Y at end of plate
1995= M or N at start of plate
1996= N or P at start of plate.
New system is year related such as TT06 WXR (the 06 means March-Sept 06) and something like TT56 WXR would mean it was registered between Sept 06 and March 07).
The new system's first two letters indicate which town or city it was registered and is a DVLA code for that area.
On the older style of plates such as HTP 516R the 'TP' would indicate where the vehicle was first registered using DVLA's area code scheme and the H is just a random letter.
