Should i buy a car battery or let the mechanic do the whole thing? ? My CRV's battery died. should i buy the car battery from the store and pay to have it installed or should i take the car to the auto shop and have them do the whole thing?
It's pretty simple to install a new car battery - and a lot cheaper! I've been doing it myself for the past 30+ years! Labor costs at a dealership are *sky-high* and parts stores, if they install, aren't much cheaper!
When I had a less than one year old Ford Ranger pick-up in early 1987. I took it to the Ford dealership, not sure whether the starting problem was the battery, alternator or the starter. The OEM battery was only under warranty for one year/12,000 miles, for Pete's Sake! I had over 12,000 miles on the truck, and when they told me the problem was the battery and the cost for a new battery was around $70, plus $45 labor charges to install it, for a new three year/36,000 mile warranty battery. When I checked on the price of a new battery at an auto parts store, their price was under $40. So I called the dealership back and told them to put my pick-up at the top of the hill at the back of the lot and I would come get it. Since I own *only* stick shift (manual transmission) vehicles, I let the truck roll down the hill & popped the clutch to start it, took it to the auto parts store, borrowed a couple wrenches to take the old battery out for "core exchange", installed the new battery, which had a four year/48,000 mile, warranty for about a third of the total cost at the dealership!
More recently, when the OEM battery (four year/48,000 mile warranty) in our 2002 Honda Civic quit on my wife 40+ miles from home, AAA found her battery was dead and wouldn't take a charge and towed it to our Honda dealership about 15 miles from home. I don't remember if the dealership gave her a price for a new battery or not; but I simply took the battery out, took it to the nearest WalMart (unfortunately about 40 miles round trip, at the time), got a new seven year/84,000 mile warranty battery, took it back to the dealership's lot and installed the new battery (with my own tools which I brought from home, this time). I did this all for under $40!

Not necessarily. Charge the battery well, either by using a charger, or drive the car for a prolonged period of time (> 1 hour), or if that isn't convenient, park it in your driveway and let it idle for a while. Sit and read a book, but don't just walk away from it; someone might steal it, or something might go wrong and you need to be there to monitor your car.

For everyday driving, in your case a simple battery from autozone, or walmart wil do like a duralast or autolite battery with a CCA ( Cold Cranking Amps) of at least 300 cost about 30-40 bucks it's really all you need and plus usally comes with an extended warranty. Dont buy those really expensive batteries like Die Hard or Optima Batteries because the are pricey and your not driving a big V8 hope this helps!
where to buy car battery cell caps? I was charging the battery in my truck and had the caps lifted out at an angle to vent. Then stupidly I unhooked the charger and hooked up the the battery and took off with out pressing the caps back on tight. While driving one fell off and got stuck in between the battery and fender but the other must have fallen off completely. So now I only have one cap and need to get another one but I cant find anywhere that sells them. Thanks for looking. If you have a older battery just get a new one... Or go to a junk yard find a similar battery buy it for 20 and take the cap off , return it and get 10 back... There you bought a cap for $10...

All but the most expensive ($185.00) battery from Sears are imported from Mexico. Consumers reports doesn't even test them any more because they're so bad.
