Photography Question.? There's a white falcon that lives up the road from me that I would love to grab a picture of with my Nikon D80. Wanted some suggestion for Shutter and Aperture. It's middle of winter here so there will be lots of light being reflected off of the snow. I can only imagine the sky will be rather bright as well. Ideas? You will need a long lens, at least 200 mm
You will need a good sturdy tripod
You will need to shoot at a shutter speed of at least 1/500th second to capture any movement of the bird.
You will need patience and some understanding of the birds behavior in the wild
Trust your cameras light meter, it is a good one. I suggest you place the light meter in the "center weighted" mode
After a couple of test shots, you will see if the white hawk comes out gray (underexposed) or overexposed. Make adjustments to correct your exposure under the conditions of a lot of snow using the EV adjustment. Usually you will have to add one stop to the setting ... + 1.0

Help buying camera...? I am a total photography amateur but somehow always end up taking the photos at family events. Those little purse-fitting handheld cameras have let me down in the past. I'm looking for something a little better quality but I'm also on a budget of about $250 or under since it is being bought for me as a gift. For a better idea of what I'm looking for: - Digital is a must. - Something with a decent zoom lens. I often find myself on the other side of a fence, road, ravine, lake, etc. from the subject that I'm trying to capture. - A tough body that can survive the bumps, shakes and other abuse of trips. - I take photographs of scenery a lot so it needs to take good shots in motion and bright sunlight. - A decent battery life would be a real plus. - And most importantly at or under the $250 dollar budget. Some model or brand suggestions or just any information that you think may help inform me to better choose the right one. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Two models to consider.

Why did my 35mm pictures turn out so crumby? I just got a hold of an older, steel-frame SLR camera. It came with a 205, 135, and 55mm lens. I went and bought a roll of Kodak 400 Ultra. I tried on most of the shots to make some outstanding photos. I believed they would have turned out great. I made the awful beginners mistake of taking my film to a 1-hour hut at Wally World. I will never do that again. Kodak film got developed on Fuji Dry Paper. They didn't develop all of my shots. They did about 22 of about 26 shots. I am NOT happy. They had stripes down them. They felt rough. They looked overdeveloped (or maybe I overexposed them). My question relates to this. I know that I will never again make that mistake. No more photo huts for me. Ever. (Has anyone had luck with their film being sent off for the 2 days at Wal*Mart?) I want to know what I have to do to make my pictures look perfect, not like some amateur. I do almost all outdoor pictures. Mostly of nature. I like animals and plants. The bare beauty that nature holds is amazing and I want to capture that. How do I make my pictures have such saturated colours? Should I ever use a flash outside in the daylight? Just to add, my signature in photography is focusing. I blur out what I don't want people to see and focus on what I want them to see. I know that it is very common, but my pictures and style reflects mainly this. I want vibrant, brighter-than-life colours. I don't want dull, muted, gray colours when I am taking a picture of a green, glowing field. Can someone help me with this? Hard to say where the problem was, camera malfunction, operator error, processing error, unrealistic expectations for a first time out with a roll of film....
Can you scan a print and post a couple on Flickr or somewhere?
In an old unknown camera, there is the real possibility your light meter, shutter or aperture diaphragm was not working correctly. So even using it on manual does not guarantee the settings are what they say they are.
I suggest shooting a roll of slides. They are what they are. Assuming the chemistry is good, what you (or the camera) do is what you get with no lab tech intervention.
You say the prints have "stripes"? What color are these markings, and are they on all frames? Are they on the negatives as well as the prints? Irregular shapes or lines? Again, an example would help diagnose the problem, but it sounds like you might have a light leak.
You might want to have the camera sent in for a CLA, where they will check it out and fix minor issues. If they find major things wrong, you might want an estimate before having it fixed. Many old camera bodies can be bought used much cheaper than repair.
Using a flash in daylight is helpful for portraits. Not so much in landscapes, although you might find uses for it from time to time, depending on subject, lighting and composition. The flash is only good for a few feet, of course, and is mainly used outdoors to lift shadows on faces and even exposure between subject and background.
Fuji Velvia is noted for saturated color and is a staple for film landscape photographers. For negative film, over exposing by a half stop or so will give more saturation.

BTW, some mini labs are pretty good, even in WallyWorld, some are horrid. A lot depends on who the tech is and how skilled, and how the equipment and chemistry is maintained. I have read where Kodak film is best on Kodak paper and Fuji on Fuji. I have run both, and Konica, and I prefer Noritsu and Kodak, Endura if they have it, especially for portraits, and glossy for landscape. If you can find a Noritsu (or even Greytag) system running Kodak paper you *might* see a difference. If the exposure is bad, nothing is going to help, especially if a negative has been underexposed.

What is a fun way to spice up my binder? So, my other school binder just fell apart. It had been a pink one with polka dots on it, and I was fine with that, but I don't want to get another one like that. My mom had a bunch of white ones with the clear covering, so I got one of those from her. But it's so boring! What can I do to spice it up? This is me... I like swimming, photography, friends, running, texting, etc. Swimming is life. Michael Phelps is a like a god. my friends are my life. Bright colors make everything better. Suggestions?? go with the swimming theme.
have a blue [water] background. i'm sure you'll have plenty of Phelps' photos - choose a largish one where he is swimming in the pool & glue that -- you can glue it partly on the back cover, & emerging into the front cover of binder [instead of on the front only] - hope you get the idea.
for water, you can even use blue cellophane paper - glue it as is or apply some diluted PVA glue. crinkle in the shape of ripples & allow the dry. the glue will become invisible & the paper will have ripples.
glue the photo on top of this.
if you like, you can add a few photographs of you & your friends watching him swim ...

help decorating a teen girls room? haii ッ so i decided to redecorate my tiny little room. I have a loft bed, maybe put a desk underneath..My walls are black (I'd like to keep them this way) and no..im not a goth or anything, i just like how it looks dramatic. The loves of my life are music, photography and shiny things. I was thinking about hanging some bright pictures to bring in color..but other than that..i have no idea what to do! I also like those posters of rock bands, i want a leather couch ッ and would love any ideas of what i could do! links? pics? fanks! i guess im looking for some good contemporary sites.. you should put your bright pictures in like frames and like putting them in like a row and colum so it's not so much like a collage (almost all little kids have collages in ther room lol). you should get sheets that coordinate with your wall and pictures. and get of those cute little throw pillows to put on your leather couch.....since it's small putting the frames and pics in rows and columns will add more like space to it. omg nd u should put mirrors small or big because that bounces light around which makes things more roomy......hope everything goes well

Looking for this external flash photography guide online...? I was browsing some time ago and found this quirky blog/guide/how-to on using an external flash for photos. It was written by a girl (for a bigger, photography or art related website) and it had photos demonstrating how photos looked like with different lighting and positioned differently. For the life of me I can't remember what it is, and I have been googling for the past half hour and I can't find it! Does this ring a bell to anyone?! If it helps, I remember a photo of her against a really bright white background, which she says you need to set the flash unit directly above/in front of the subject (to get photos that look sort of like terry richardson/could be in nylon magazine). what can i do to my room to make it more 'me'? i would like to add more decorations to my bedroom. all my furniture is white and there are a bunch of bright colors in my room. i like: taylor swift, drawing, writing, photography, music, ocean/marine life, some sports, beachy/tropical things, and a bunch of celebs...what should i do? is there a way for my room to be neat but still covered in posters and drawings? explain please. thanks in advance! btw, im 12. :)megan Since you like the fine arts, you should probably dedicate your room to that, and then use your color scheme in blues for the beachy/tropical vibe. Maybe use a lot of blues in your bedspread, pillows, etc. Section your room into things like a place for photography things, and maybe set up a canvas with pencils and things in another place. Posters can go anywhere, but put them where you'll feel most inspired. Like Taylor Swift could go near your radio or something.

How to Get around 18% grey in a 35 mm camera? I am new to photography, and I am taking a class at school. We are supposed to shoot still life and a lot of what I want to shoot is bright white, but my teacher said that when shooting with black and white film no matter if something is very white, or very black it will always come out as 18% grey, but she said that there was a way to get around that but I thought I got it at the time but now I cant even remember. Any help would be amazing. If you use the camera's metering, it will always average out to 18% grey. If you take a picture of something overwhelmingly white using the camera's meter, the white will look dirty grey. Try taking a photo of a snowy scene with the camera's meter.
The snowy scene will be underexposed, and consequently grey. The way to get the whites really white is to overexpose the scene. You can do by changing the EV or by using the manual exposure mode and compensating to over expose. It will be a little trial and error - take a picture, review if it is overexposed enough, and change the settings again if needed.
A dark scene is the same, but in reverse.

Can I dye jet black hair with a store brought dye without bleaching it ? Hi guys im asian and i have JET JET JET black hair and its so annoying because whenever i try to dye my hair using a store brought hair dye the color barelllly shows up and only in flash photography or bright sunlight. otherwise its pretty much black. I was wondering if i can use blond hair dye and use it on my black hair and then once my hair is "lifted" i can change it to whatever i want. i reallllly do not want to bleach my hair its so unhealthy. I've only dyed my hair 2 times in my life xD so i dont have much experience but please let me know if theres a way i can lighten up my black hair without bleaching it at a salon or something. thanks so much ;D oh and idk if this is important but my dream color is red ;D Have you tried henna. Will make it amazingly shiny!
