POLL about selling my stately dutch milf magnet? This is a Batavus "PERSONAL" delivery bike. It's black, has one speed, a coaster brake, a kick stand, chain case, racks, and a dynamo lighting system. I discovered it in the basement of the Smith and Butler boutique in Carrol Gardens last October. I am selling this bicycle because my therapist suggested I need to come to terms with my attraction to african-american women. No sister is going to date a 34 year old systems administrator riding a european grocery bike. However, when I would cruise slowly down Park Slope's fifth avenue, panties would literally fly off of every white or asian woman with a stroller and a master's degree. I live in Williamsburg now and the bike confuses most of the women here. If I grow my moustache out a little and explain it only has one speed "like a fixie" I can sometimes get to second base. But for the most part I might as well have a soul patch and collect classic cameras. If you want to get some action I'd only take this baby out south of Atlantic Avenue. Spring is coming and if you like flat-assed waspy moms who went to Vassar, this is the ride you need. $300 O.B.O. man you got it all

Help me find a decent LED light system for a bicycle...please? I'm looking for a decent LED headlight and tail light for a bicycle but I don't want to spend too much money ($30 or so). Any suggestions? This light will give you the most bang for your buck. I need your recommendation on the best lighting for a bicycle.? Basically, what I am seeking is a "flamethrower" instead of the wimpy "night light" that I got from a retail outlet. If you're riding fast, you need a bright light so that you don't "out-ride" the beam and lose reaction time for bumps and holes. Bike lights are fantastically overpriced, so expect to pay from $150 to $500 for one. If you ride slower or on smooth surfaces then some of the cheaper halogen and LED lights might make you happy....$90 to $200.
For the road, most lights are fine. If you're mountain biking, a bright light is really, really (REALLY) helpful and will allow you to ride about as fast as you do in the daytime if you know the trail well. It's also appreciably safer than a dim light that won't highlight what you need to see and avoid. I prefer helmet mount on the trail and bar mount for the road. Some people use two lights, one helmet, one bar.
HID lighting is the way to go if you can afford it. I rode with a 15w halogen for years and when I finally bought an HID last year.....wow! If you look online, you can find some HIDs for about $280 right now. They normally run from $350 to $600. It's a lot of money, but you'll never regret it. After using Niterider products for years, I got sick of their poor customer service and problems with warranty/defects.....tried out Light and Motion and I'll never look back. For the HID lights, the only disadvantage with LM is that you have to send the light in to them if the bulb dies.....it's a safety and quality issue, but they have a superfast turnaround time. Another small quirk is that you have to switch the light head from bar to helmet mount and vice versa by removing a screw.....small price to pay, though. Niterider has good products, improved from years past, but their service attitude still sucks. Cateye also has some good superlights on the market.
I haven't been too impressed with the "ultrabright" LED lights. They're bright, but not bright enough for technical/dangerous trails and riding fast. My HID is so bright I feel comfortable hitting jumps in the dark! The Niterider Minewt double system is pretty decent, and a lot cheaper than HID. There are several others hitting the market now as the technology becomes cheaper and more available. Personally, I'd choose HID or a strong halogen over the LED lights, but some people love them. It depends on your needs, I guess.
Halogen lights are the old standby. Once you compare them to newer lighting, they look yellow and dim, but they're totally usable. Don't go any less than 15w if you ride fast.
As far as batteries go, choose a lithium ion or nickel-metal-hydride. Some lights still come with Ni-cd batteries but the extra few bucks for one of the newer materials is worth it. They're lighter, smaller, more consistent, and last longer over the life of the battery. If you find a light with a lead-acid battery, look elsewhere. They're cheap, that's about their only positive quality.
You'll want a relatively fast charger if you think you'll use it often or to commute with. Overnight chargers sometimes leave you in the dark unless you're good about planning ahead. Most chargers have trickle-charge modes and over-charge protection, but not all. I'd strongly recommend that you choose a light with this......all companies charge WAY too much for replacement parts and batteries, so anything to make them foolproof is well worth it.
This is a great time of year to score 15% and 20% discounts at the online stores, and lights are discounted while people aren't riding the dark as much or new model year lights are coming out. If you can see or borrow other people's lights, that's absolutely the best way to find out what you need. Also, always be sure to carry some sort of small backup light just in case you have a problem.

Pulley question : How many time does this system make it lighter than the original weight? http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/41iLRAU+xRL._AA160_.jpg In that picture, there are two ropes, one for the left ,and one for the right. We hold both ropes and pull to lift the bicycle. I guess it will be lighter as half of the orginal weight.. ? ? Funny looking bicycle. and I don't see 2 ropes. The MA of what I see is 4, meaning it takes 1/4 of the weight on it, to lift it.

When did dynamo lighting systems go out of fashion on bicycles, and why? I recently installed a NOS Miller dynamo set to my bicycle and it is excellent. Why aren't all bicycle lights dynamo powered? I thought that dynamo lights used to be the most popular form of power, so why did they become so uncommon? Several of the posters touched on the answer. The dynamo lights went away due to the improvement in the size and life of batteries. A second issue is bulb life, as the old style dynamos spin up and down the voltage changes and this is seen in the change in light output, an other bad side affect of this is shortened bulb life. Today with the advancement in electronics these issues can be corrected so the dynamo systems should make a good come back.

What is the strangest, most unexplainable dream that you have ever had? Mine was being a bicycle messanger carrying a device to a city to mask their weapons systems, being attacked by an enemy plane, and having to fight the plane off with firecracker type rockets that you have to light a fuse on the end to start. Use a flasher relay connected to a three position toggle switch for your directionals. You will need to install a limit switch for the brakes to push against for the brake light. The headlight can be pretty much the lens and lamp from any sufficient flashlight. I recommend using a rechargable battery pack to store energy from the dc generator.

Do dynamo lighting systems for bicycles cause significant wear to the tyre sidewall? As in, will they eventually wear right through the sidewall of the tyre? If so, how long will it take? Yipes! I think I've been giving you bad answers on dynamos.
I consider dynamos the items built into hubs, and the things that rub against the wheel as generators. Although they both produce current the dynamo is much more efficient.
Anyway, no, the sidewall will be fine if you use blackwall, gunwall, or whitewall tires. The problem comes up if you use skinwall.

How do I build a bicycle generator for use with LED lights (I saw one used as an aide project for India)? I would like to reduce my use of electricity by trying to go to solar power but I have limited resources (cash and knowledge). I would need free plans and instructions on how to build and simple procedures for maintenance, care, and use of the system. I also need any safety precautions I would need to follow to implement this system. I have no mechanical background so I need layman's terms so I can understand what I am going to be doing. This is being done for areas in India or Pakistan with no electrical power so must be cost efficient but there was no further information available to my knowledge on the program I saw. You need a dynamo it has a tiny wheel inside which touches the wheel and when the wheel rotates the dynamo's wheel rotates.
The wheel is connected to copper coils which gets charged and produces electricity from the friction. The electricity is used to power lights in a bycycle.
