any ideas on how to mount a flashlight onto bicycle handlebars? i bought a crank flashlight with the intention of using it for a bicycle headlight and tried mounting it with a coat hanger twisted around the handlebars..it didn't work as well as planned...any other ideas? A crank flashlight makes it interesting. I am guessing that is about the size & shape of a hand. IE: long and flat, with a crank on the side, which you have to have access to. I also wonder if you are able to bolt something to your handlebars. But OK, radiator hose clamps - cheap & easy to find.
They are flat metal with small slots every quarter inch, and a barrel screw to hold them closed if you can get a few of those, you could strap the flashlight to the handlebars. OR! Just get a package of foot-long plastic zip ties, like they use to tie wires together. They are cheap, and flexible, and easy to use (no tools required). OK, the ideal thing would be make a little box, with a lockable lid, and an open or clear plastic front end (for the light to shine through) . Bolt the box to the handlebars, crank up the flashlight, and off you go. Or you could just super glue the damn thing.

How to mount a bicycle front light on handlebars so it can't be stolen? Any ideas on how to mount a front bicycle headlight on the handlebars so that it can't be stolen? The mounting bracket that the light slides into was stolen, I want to get a new one and mount the whole light on the bike so it can't be stolen. If you use a light like the catseye or polarus systems they have quick release fittings so you can take them off easily and drop them in a bag or your pocket. If thats no good follow the other answer and use loads of epoxy glue!!

I'm looking for a quality bicycle headlight for under 100$? I need a good light for riding in the total darkness of a flat but woodsy bike trail. I want to be able to see far enough so that I can cover some decent ground, I'll also be somewhat on the roads. Anyone ever use one of those headlamps for riding in the dark? Thanks to all who help...and I WILL pick a best answer this time!! I use 1 headlamp on my head and 1 headlight that goes on the bike. I think I paid about 30 for the headlamp and the headlight was probably about the same. Trek sells a model and cat-eye sells one that works well. I like the 2 light system because the light on the bike lights up the trail and the light on your head lights up whereever you are looking, which is much safer, especially on a "woodsy trail"

Which bicycle led headlight is the brightest? excluding the cateye double and triple shot Cateye Opticube is by far the best and the lightest to use that any on the market today.

Which bicycle headlight do you recomend? I recently got into biking. I am an occasional bicycle rider. I want a headlight and a rear light that allows drivers to see me. I too live in Canada and for 12 years I rode to work year round (summer and winter). As you know that means riding in the dark both ways in winter.
Since I rode in the city with sufficient light to see the road I was only concerned about being visible, not about being able to see. A red LED flashing rear light and a white flashing front light worked well. I used a small battery operated headlight for a year or so, but preferred a flashing front light since I noticed it stands out to drivers better than a steady light.
Some friends of mine preferred a helmet -- rather than bike - mounted light. There are commercial designs (See Mountain Equipment Coop's site), or you can do wonders with epoxy. They felt it was more visible higher up, and allowed them to direct the front light rather than having it fixed in position. It also meant they could use different bikes without buying multiple lights .... not likely a winter issue, but a consideration in spring/fall.
Petzl make some good head/helmet mountable lights that can be used for not only cycling but campling, night skiiing, etc ... again leveraging the investment.
There are numerous designs so it's really personal choice. The LED type work best because you get bright light and really long life out of the batteries.
One hint --- use rechargables, and always carry a spare.
If you need to see as well as be seen you have a different problem. The flashing red rear light can be the same, but you need a good bright front headlight. The Nightesun brand is highly recommended ... but isn't cheap and can be heavy ... but for lot's of light and long life they are arguably the best option.

Where can I buy a bicycle headlight generator? Does anyone remember those bicyce headlight generators from back in the day? I can't find one online. HELP!! I remember those things and we called them dynamos. I thought it probably has gone Jurassic like the typewriter but I have extra time and this is interesting to me too so I did a search.

best led bicycle headlight? There are so many options for bicycle led headlights that I see online. The problem is, there's no way to know how effective they are until you've actually bought them and tried them out. I don't want one that's only good for being seen, as most will satisfy that requirement, I want one that will also provide a good amount of light to see in the dark too. At night I usually ride between 10-15mph, maybe rarely more than 20mph so it's not like I need a helicopter spotlight. What's a good one to buy that: 1) Has blink and steady modes 2) Is bright enough to see well at night under slow-moderate speed(no racing) 3) Uses LED light run from normal batteries 4) At a good price. Is there a reason you want only options that run from "normal" batteries? In my experience, units that run on standard batteries are, to be honest, crap...
If you want a great light, at a decent price, check out the new NiteRider MiNewt Mini-USB. It puts out about 110 lumens, charges in about 4.5 hours on either a standard outlet or a computer's USB port, will run for about 3 hours, and only weighs about 175 grams.... and only runs about $85. If you're willing to spend a little more, the MiNewt X2 is a bit brighter (150 lumens) and has low and high beams for about $175... and the MiNewt X2 Dual is two of the MiNewt X2's for 300 lumens at about $225.
When I ride on the street at night, I just use a MiNewt USB mounted to my helmet... when I ride in the dirt at night, I use the MiNewt USB on the helmet along with the MiNewt X2 Dual's on my handlebars and it's like riding in the daytime...

Are there any companies that make a bicycle headlight that is powered by the pedaling of the bike? If not, does anyone know how much it would take to make a pedal powered bicycle safety light? At first thought, it seemed like it wouldn't take that much to make a light like that, but I don't know much about that sort of thing. Yes, there are two different types:

Headlight bracket mounting piece for bicycle forks? Again, I was told there is a thingy that goes on the side of the fork for putting a headlight lower. There is no room on the handlebars. What is that thing and wear can I get 1? That's easy. check this out. He sells a special headlight bracket so you can put your light down there. The lower position gives a side ligh effect to things I see on the road.
