I've decided to purchase a handgun for the first time. Help? Here are the criteria that will mold my decision: 1- Home / self def. (no ccw at this time) 2- A safe action, easy to use and maintain 3- $500 - 750 range 4- Proven brand that will resale well if needed. Also, a good accessory line, and rail. 5- Fun to shoot, accurate enough for amatuer / local club matches if it becomes a hobby. Handguns I'm considering are: .45 ACP - FNP45, Glock 21SF, HK USP45, (im not ready for a 1911) .40 - Kimber Pro Defense 9mm - Walther PPS, Beretta PX4, Ruger SR9 .22 - Sig Mosquito, Walther SP22 Other - Sig 250 - Modular barrels, etc. My main question is should I go for the 45? It's the obvious champ at home defense, or should I go the route of starting with a .22 and working up thru the calibers as I gain experience? The range nearest my house is .22 only, so that may influence my decision, but I'd really like the .45 but I'd have to travel a couple hours to practice.. Please help, I've heard and read so many differing opinions Thanks, but at this point I'd like to stay with a semiauto pistol. Just a personal preference. Do you have any advice on those? I would say start with a 9mm. Work your way up to the others. a 9mm will be ok for home defense.
The Px4 is a great gun, but I grew tired of the trigger pull. I own a Ruger SR9 and love it, but there is a recall on them and you should wait towards the end of the year to buy one. Or just ask to see when it was made. Anything after April of 2008 are ok. My all time favorite semi-auto is the Springfield Armory XD. In my opinion has the best fit, safeties, and lowest recoil. The trigger pull is smooth and is easy to maintain. Definitely in your price range. I own both a 9mm and a .45acp. I do not like .40 calibers. That was my first handgun ever and I ended up with some arm issues that I do not have with any other caliber.???
As for the .22s. Go with the Sig. A friend of mine has one and is way better than the Walther.

Does anybody have an opinion on the Beretta PX4 Storm? I am thinking of adding one, chambered in .40, to my collection. The caliber is a given, so please, no advice on other calibers. My question here is, does anybody have real world experience with one? I would like to know what you like, or do not like about them. Are they partial to any specific brand of ammo or do they feed almost anything? And if you have shot one extensively, and that is north of 5000 rounds, how is it holding up? Any problems finding leather gear or accessories? And anything else you can think of that may be helpful. I have a 92 and 96 and I love them so I am somewhat familiar with Beretta. Thanks in advance for you opinions. My first storm was a full size 45acp F series. I liked it so much I soon bought a G series 40S&W storm. Since then I have added a subcompact F series 9mm and an F series 40S&W subcompact. I will admit I had problem with the decocker switch on the 40S&W and had to send it back to Beretta for warranty repair, when they returned in less than 10 days later, they included 2 high capacity magazines with it along with a full write up of their repair.
I don't have over 5K rounds through any of my Storms, although the 45ACP is approaching 3,500 rounds. I have NO problems with any of the 4 I own, other than the initial issue with the 40S&W decocker switch.
Don Hume makes holsters for these that will fit just fine, as does Galco, Fobus makes paddle holsters for these as well. The subcompacts I had a hard time finding good holster for, there is a seller on gunbroker out of Thailand that makes a molded soft holster for them that works great. The full size storms can use any of the accessories I have tried on the rail, I'm not a big fan of dressing up pistols by hanging crap on the rails, but if that's your thing, you can do it with a Storm.
Some will say the Storm is a weak design, yet these people have never backed up their claim with a valid link by a reliable source. Do your own reading online from the various forums, there is a Beretta forum with a Storm subsection full of high praise and accolades for these guns, and of course there's a few problems too, guess what EVERY gun maker has a few problems, it's how their customer service handles these problems that matters, Beretta's customer service is stellar. I also own 2 92's and a 96G, ALL are well built shooters.

What's a good pistol cleaning kit? I'm getting a 4'' Beretta Px4 Storm, 9mm and I'm looking for a great cleaning kit to go with it. What's one that I can get at a great price? Maybe online, or at a store? Also, what other accessories should I get with my gun, besides a gun case? You'll most likely end up getting either a cleaning kit made by Hoppe's or Outer's because that is what most gun stores carry. Either is fine I have a set of each and a few others. I tend to take the best from each. I tend to like both bronze brushes and nylon brushes for handguns. I also get a pointed brass cleaning jag that fits the barrel diameter and stay away from the little slotted jags. A tooth brush for cleaning the action is also good to have. I tend to used Hoppe's solvent and either Rem Oil or Billistol as oil. Buy your cleaning pacthes in bulk, they never go bad.
As for what else, Any tools you need to take it down I'd get one just for that firearm or only for firearms like screwdrivers and or allen wrenches. Each of my handguns has at least three magazines or more.

Help with Beretta PX4 Co2 accuracy? I just bought the Beretta px4 Co2 pellet/bb gun and have shot over 600 rounds at a pop can from 15 feet away and have hit the can about 60 times. I have shot other pellet pistols and have been accurate at 40 feet away. I do not understand what I am doing wrong. The sights are non-adjustable and there is quite a blowback to it. But after 600 rounds I should be pretty accurate with it. It has an accessory rail and I am thinking about putting a laser on it. Any ideas on how to become more accurate? Thanks for the replies. I will still consider getting a laser. But, what I just found out after posting this, is that the blowback raises the pellet/bb up about 2 inches from 15 feet away. So I just aim 2 inches under my target, and it hits it. After about 40 shots, when the Co2 becomes weaker, I can aim right at the target and it will hit it. I am able to hit 50/50 now. I just need to practice more. maybe your sights are messed up...if they are you could send it back for a new one. if not just keep practicing i guess, practice makes perfect. a laser might be a good idea too try the walther night force which is very cool

beretta px4 storm 9mm or springfield xd 9mm? i've narrowed the choice down to these 2 and it's hard to choose. i'm a huge beretta fan (i own a 92fs) and know the put out a good product. the xd has much more accessories, and more safety features, but i just cant keep my eyes off the storm. if anyone owns either of these pistols, your opinions would be great. so, which one is the better choice and why? thanks :) I like both firearms. I bought a Px4 Storm in 9mm back in 05. It was a nice gun. After a while I kind of started to dislike the trigger pull in the Storm. Other wise the Storm is an great handgun. I also currently own 2 XDs. One in 9mm and another in .45acp. I like them much better than the Storm. The trigger pull is constant. I also like having the grip safety, loaded chamber indicator, striker indicator.
I do think the XD is an overall better fit to my hand and I would choose them over anything else in protecting my family and home.
On a side note, I traded my Storm for a 9mm Ruger SR9 just last year. Very wise trade after shooting the Ruger.
What it will come down to is what feels best in your hand, which gun do you think functions better. I know you will have an easier time finding a holster for the XD.
