I need help purchasing a handgun? I've been looking to purchase my first handgun. I personally want a external hammer. I'm not a fan of revolvers. I want a 9mm because I already have a shotgun and a AR15 for home defense. I just want something to mess around with but also good quality. My budget is around $500-$700. Any personal experiences? I like heavy handguns also. I've been told by a Marine that the Beretta M9 is horrible and that the 1911s are horrible. Sig Sauer is probably the best pistol manufacturer in the world. A new P250 can be bought for around $450. You can get a used P226 for about $550, which is probably one of the top 5 pistols on the planet. That's why its used by the SEALs and the SAS. I bought one in 357SIG and I love it. Its extremely accurate and very easy to strip down. If you dont like SIG then you may want to look at the Taurus 92. Its like the M9 only cheaper and they are very reliable. I don't think you'd have any problems from the M9 or Taurus equivalent, as long as you don't plan on carrying it in Afghanistan. Walther also has some nice modern pistols that seem reliable, the Pk380 is one and they have another in 9mm.

Which is a better handgun, USMC M9 Beretta or Navy Pilot's Sig Sauer 226? The M9 Beretta (civilian equivalent is 92f) has had durability issues for years. The military doesn't care, they just buy more when the old ones break.
The P226 is extremely reliable and famous for its accuracy.
Both are full-size duty guns. The Beretta has a fatter grip, but neither is ideal for people with medium or small hands. The military also uses the SIG-Sauer P228 (designated the M11) for plain clothes investigators and police. It's essentially a compact P226 and an excellent firearm.

Comparing the Glock 19, Beretta M9 and S&W M&P 9mm? I'm looking to buy a new reliable handgun for range shooting and home defence. They are all 9mm guns and each handles superbly. From an experienced gun owner's point of view what would be the best choice between the Glock 19, Beretta M9 and S&W M&P 9mm? And on a side-note, I will be driving cross country in a few months and many of the truck rest stops have "No security provided" such as many of the rest stops in Mississippi and Louisiana. Is it legal to keep a gun in the car while I sleep at one of these stops? Thanks. All three are good choices. Glocks and Berettas are known for reliability and the M&P gets rave reviews as well. It really boils down to which you are more comfortable with. The Beretta has a manual safety which some people like, others don't...but the Glock and M&P (except for an option on the .45) don't. M9 is a bit big, but Beretta also has a PX4 Storm which is a bit more compact. The grip angle is a bit different between the Glock and M&P and you may just want to hold each to see which is more comfortable. It would be best if you could shoot someone's or rent some to see which you like best. Can't go wrong with any of them.

What model Beretta PX4 storm 40 SW should I get? I recently got my degree in criminal justice and am looking to join the reserve police team in my county. I have decided to purchase a handgun and this will be my first one although I have shot others. (Glock 23, Beretta M9). I do not know what model (F,D,C, or G) would be a better choice for possibly carrying while a reserve cop.

Do Special Forces soldiers carry any handguns besides the Beretta M9? Just curious if they have any specialized hanguns besides the usual Beretta. Thanks all sf guys i ever met carried 1911's.

What is wrong with my Beretta M9? I recently purchased a Beretta m9. Last weekend I took it to the range and shot it for the first time. Occasionally, when shooting it, I would feel a small spec hit/singe my cheek when it would eject a casing. (FYI, I was using MAGTECH 9mm Luger ammo) At this point, I am assuming that what I felt was excess gunpowder being ejected with the casing. Before answering my questions, you should know that: The ejection port on the m9 is significantly larger than most handguns because of the exposed barrel. Also, I am left handed and the casings are ejected to the right. So my question is: What is hitting me in the face when a casing is ejected? Are their any solutions to this problem (i.e. should I use different ammo? or simply wear protective glasses?) Try a few rounds of S&W 9mm ammo and see if you get the same effect. The Magtech ammo may be disintegrating a small part of the shell casing, causing small pieces of the casing to fly out with the case when you eject.
And yes, absolutely wear safety glasses when firing the gun.

Beretta 87 ---> Beretta 92FS ---> M9? As the title (hopefully) suggested I am looking for a natural progression to the Beretta M9. My ROTC unit will be sponsoring cadets in an event next year where marksmanship, and familiarity with the M9 is key. (Plus this is the handgun I will have to qualify with when I commission.) Naturally the 92FS is the logical choice as far as a civilian counterpart to train with. However, as I will be a first time gun owner, I wanted to start with something smaller, and cheaper to fire. Is the Beretta 87 (not necessarily the 87 Target) a good choice for someone intending to move on to the 92FS and then the M9? Aside from the training bit, are both the 87 and the 92FS solid handguns that I will not regret purchasing? How are they price wise? Not quite as important (as I'll have to use the M9 anyway) but I have smaller hands for a guy. How is the grip on the 92FS? A good size? Or, large by 9mm standards? Any insight you gun guru's can shed would be incredibly helpful. If it looks like I'm on the wrong train of thought here, please feel free to step in and correct me. Thanks in advance. The Beretta 87 evolved from the Beretta 84 series, which evolved from the Beretta 1951...as did the Beretta 92.
Hence you can look at the 84 and 92 as 'brothers' and the 87 as a 'nephew'
The grip of the 87 will be most similar to the 84, which is more similar to Browning BDA grip than a Beretta 92F grip.
However, you are wasting your time worrying about finding a 22LR that has a grip similar to the 92F.
Shooting is about eyeballs, sights, and triggers. It doesn't matter what handgun you learn sight picture and trigger control on, it will translate to them all. The degree of translation is much more related to the quality and similarity of sights plus trigger travel length and crispness than it is grip feel.
Go forth and shoot in volume, with both eyes open, perfecting your sight picture with WHATEVER 22LR of decent quality you choose. It doesn't matter if it is a Beretta 87, a Browning Buckmark, a Ruger Mark 3, Walther 10, Smith and Wesson 41, etc etc
I would recommend staying away from the Walther P22 though, it 'looks cool' but other than that is just okay, not target grade no matter how much target stuff they try and hang from it.
OH, final note, the Beretta 87 has a very different manual of arms than most semiautos. You are supposed to work the slide from BELOW, by reaching under and in front of the trigger guard with thumb and forefinger to work the slide. Of course the Buckmark and the Ruger don't have slides that operate like a conventional modern combat handgun either

I had an M9 beretta, what will my accessories fit? I had an M9 beretta in the army and have a rail mountable tactical light as well as cleaning accessories. What different handguns will these fit? Mostly the the light. I know the cleaning should fit any 9 mil. The rail on the Beretta is a Picatinny MIL-STD-1913 rail. If your light fit that rail it will fit any gun that also has a Picatinny MIL-STD-1913 rail which is almost all of them.
