FAQ about Beretta Handgun Forum

What kind of Sig handgun do you think I should get and why? Hi, I've been looking into purchasing a handgun for quiet some time now. I would like to get a CWP when I get back from deployment. I have been looking around online, I have researched out Colt, Sig, Ruger, Glock, S&W, Beretta, H&K, you name it, I've probably looked at it! From all the review sites I have been on, Sig was almost always in the top 5, talking to friends I know, they own Sig and love them, even my armorer out here is a gun collector and said he's buying a Sig P226 because he loves Sig. So my question is not what brand you think it best, I'm pretty set in my decision, my question is what type of Sig? I was looking at the Sig Sauer P226, after reading many reviews, and especially from the law enforcement forums, one in particular had 240+ reviews, 5/5 stars nothing but positive feedback. Looking at the Sig website there is like 15+ P226 models. What makes one better then the next? And I was really looking to get a .45 but I can't seem to find one, does Sig make a .45? My answers are in reverse order, but here ya go:
Yes, Sig makes several .45 models, the most common/popular being the P220. They also make the modular P250 platform which can be purchased in a variety of configurations and calibers, and is easily interchanged among them, making for a very unique transformable pistol. They also make a great 1911 "copy" called the 1911, that is available in a variety of sizes and styles. So whether you go .45 or 9mm, you have several dozen, if not a hundred or more possible options to choose from in the Sig family.
As far as what type- well that's like telling someone what type of car or suit to buy. Are you tall or short? Big hands or small? I could recommend my favorites, but you might not be a good fit for them. I recommend you hit a gun shop when you return and lay your hands on as many Sigs they have in the shop for as long as it takes you to get a feel for them (or until they kick you out :) - which they won't.) I'd also recommend after that, you try to get some trigger time with a few models at a range. That way, you can try before you buy and really get a feel for the real-world performance of the pistol and how comfortable it is for you.
Also, congratulations on making an excellent choice- Sigs are among the best made firearms on the planet, along with H&K, Colt, FN, CZ, and Glock. I have had extensive experience with Sigs (and HKs) during my military service (Army, 18A) as well as my tenure in Law Enforcement, and they are my preferred personal carry pistol along with Kimber and H&K. Finally, thank you for your service, and I'd be more than happy to answer any more questions you have or provide more info or advice if you need it- simply contact me via my Yahoo Answers profile. I've helped many shooters pick firearms, and I'm always happy to help a fellow vet.

What do you think of the Beretta 96F? I just purchased a used Beretta 96f in the inox finsh. I have been reading alot of forums about them and the majority of people dont like them much. Personally i think they look great. The DA trigger pull is alittle heavy but not unbearable and the SA trigger seems quite nice. Ive out about 1500 rounds thru it and had no problems yet also is more accurate then my glock 23. I was dissapointed wtih the low factory mag capacity but found that mec-gar offers a 13 and 15 round mag for the 96 (in my opinion the mec-gars are higher quality than factory anyway. I was hoping to get ur opinion on the 96F and aslo wanted to know why people bag on the .40 cal ammuntion, the american made berettas, and alluminum framed handguns. Thanks alot ur input is well apreciated. the only thing I have against a 96F is the 10-11 rnd mag capacity in such a large 40 cal pistol but as you said mec-gar makes great mags although I didn't know anyone made a 15 rounder, unless it's extended like the 20 round 9mm mags?
The only thing bad about aluminum framed guns is when they are made with poor heat treat or otherwise soft alloys that crack over long term use.
and the reputation thing might be from what the military berettas got when we bought magazines from the low bidder instead of berettas and the finish caused problems with feeding in dusty conditions.
and there are the people for whom a 45 is the only caliber. To think about using any other is blasphemy.

And I was really looking to get a .45 but I can't seem to find one, does Sig make a .45? 27 minutes ago - 4 days left to answer. So, I happen to be a SIG 226 owner and shooter ... and I would never carry it. Why? Because all of the things that make it a great shooting pistol make it hard to carry. It's wide body, heavy and large.
The 220 is a single stack SIG, so narrower and in .45 ACP. I would be much more likely to carry that. The typical carry SIGs are the guns like the 229, or the 239. Also, the 250 is a nice compact profile for carry and has an extremely smooth almost revolver like double action only trigger.
Now, that being said - home defense? Sport shooting? Riding around in your car? Open carry? The 226 is a fine choice. Concealed carry? Some people do it, particularly in cold weather states where having layers helps hide stuff or for people who are very fit, but still large so they can have clothes that drape on them a bit to hide it. However, for other folks - it's a bit bulky for concealed carry.
