Cost of replacing an ignition barrel & new keys on 1999 Honda Accord? My 1999 Honda Accord has a worn/faulty barrel and the key will no longer turn (Note: not the wiggle steering wheel to release steering lock problem, but actual worn pins/parts in the barrel). A garage has quoted me nearly £600 (parts, labour and VAT). They say about £400 of that is for parts from Honda (new ignition, pair of new keys and reprogramming of keys). Is this expensive? I just want to get an idea of how much this costs so not to get ripped off. That sounds outrageously high. if the tumblers in the cylinder are worn it should be something your local locksmith can repair. your quote is for everything inside the column and new keys. they should just be able to remove the lock cylinder and replace the damaged tumblers instead of replacing the housing and all of the electrical components.
in most cases the locksmith can rebuild the lock without any problem. you may have to have a technician remove the lock and have the lock cylinder taken to a locksmith. if its done that way there is no need to replace the keys or reprogram them as the lock will be made to match the existing key and the existing keys are already matched to the car.
if you buy the new cylinder with new keys as your mechanic is suggesting you will have to pay to have them programmed.
if your key isn't in great condition, your honda dealer can make a new one and program it using the existing key before you have the lock rebuilt. the locksmith will tell you if the key you have is usable or not. if you just need one new key its about $50 (don't know what that is in pounds).

how do i removed my ignition barrel if my key wont turn? I cant get my old ignition barrel out coz the key wont move at all.and i can take it to anyone coz the steering wheel is locked so i cant turn corners or anything. PLEASE HELP!!!!! Its a VP Holden Sorry I didnt mention it before. Try to move the steering wheel while you are trying to turn the key or remove the key. That might get it out.
If that doesn't work, call a locksmith and ask him what he can do to help you. Be specific about your problem and ask if he has handled it before. Make sure if he comes out and can't get it done that he won't charge you.
Removing the ignition lock barrel is a pretty big job in most modern cars and probably isn't something you want to tackle on your own.
If a locksmith won't work you'll have to call a tow truck to tow it into a repair shop.
The bright side is you really don't have to worry about someone stealing it while it's in this condition--you'd just have to look down the street in a straight line to find it!

Can anyone supply or suggest where I might be able to buy ignition barrel and key for Citroen C25D? Hi, I have a Citroen C25D Turbo Diesel Campervan/Motorhome. It is a imported one, we brought it in Oct last year, but only got one set of keys with it, and I have lost the keys!! got a leonardo 125 wife lost keys wont start took barrel 2 locksmith no spark? anyway can the bike sorted or does it have to go 2 the dealer do you know how to de immobalise it? What's the question?
Edit: I still don't get the connection between taking it to a locksmith and it having no spark. If the locksmith cut you some new keys for it and they turn the ignition switch, then it should work, unless you put it back in wrong. Try an auto electrician?
If the Aprilias are anything like my Piaggio (and Piaggio own Aprilia, when all is said and done) then once you've programmed it initially with the master key you only need a regular key to start it. Sounds like you need to take it to a dealer - although, if your dealer is as useless as mine, it might pay trying to contact the factory directly, via their website, or your country's importer. But try the electrician first.

Can a locksmith change the key barrel instead of replacing the whole door lock? This is called a "rekey". A locksmith takes apart your door lock, takes apart the cylinder, throws away your old pins, puts in new pins and gives you new keys. Your old key will no longer work.
If we're talking about a *knob* and if that knob is a Schlage (most are these days), the locksmith will either need a working key to take it apart or will need to pick it ($$).
During the daytime, you can expect to pay around $70-$80 to rekey the first lock + $20-$30 for each additional. Rekeying is typically about $20-$30 cheaper than buying/installing a new lock, unless you do it all yourself, of course.

Where can I find a website with a database of old keys and their uses? I have an old key, from perhaps the early 1900s, but I don't know what it goes to. The only person who would have known was my grandfather, who died recently. No one in the family knows what the key was for. It's rather small, a "barrel key" I think because its long-ish thin shaft is hollow. Does anyone know where I can find more information about the key? Or does anyone know what the key might go to? My grandfather was a ship's captain if that helps, so perhaps the key might have something to do with equipment on a ship...? Any help would be great, thanks! If the key shaft is a hollow tube on the end and has a metal flat piece off the side, you just have a warded key. It is used on small or large locks that, when you look through the keyhole, have a pin centered on the hole. The pin supports and aligns the flat part as it is turned so the grooves and edges match with the wards.
Everything from sugar safes to tea caddies to jewelry cases might have used that kind of lock and they normally were not branded (like Yale or Schlague today) and certainly not limited to one purpose.

Does any one know how much it costs to get a new mercedes benz c c180 class ignition barrel and keys in U.k? The key will not turn to start the car and also the steering is locked and I have been advised to get the barrel replaced. This should not need a new key, replacement of the barrel is usually the only thing needed. You can probably find out how to do this on the net, it is a fairly common problem with MB cars.

How do I change a Peugeot 306 ignition barrel part 2? Thanks for the answers so far, right, from the start, I tried putting the key into the barrel, key didn't go all the way in, thus unable to turn key or take off stearing lock. Do i start drilling now??? If your original key will not go in all the way, I suspect that some of the internal parts will not move aside for the teeth of the key.
Before you drill anything, spray some WD-40 or CRC oil into the key slot to free-up anything. Try tapping firmly on the ignition barrel to cause vibrations to allow the original key to enter.
Finally, do you have a second key that may work better?
Failing all this, the only thing your should drill is the little pin of the ignition barrel. Do not make any hole in the metal shaft any bigger... you don't want to cause any problems installing your new ignition.
There also a 7mm "set screw" that helps retain the barrel in place. Remove this, find this directly on top of the barrel casing.
Remember, there is a reason why the key will not enter completely. But it recently fit? Try to make the small difference it needs to enter, before you get destructive.

ONE DAY LATER: I just went to the breaker to view a 306 ignition barrel. Yes, the little square shaped pin is directly under the barrel, and if you have to cut metal, you are lucky! You need only cut about 1/4 inch until the barrel can slide out. A 1/4 inch drill or angle grinder or hacksaw could suffice.

how do i pop the ignition barrel out of my 66 elcamino if i don have the key? ya, i lost my keys for my elcamino on a bus and now i cant do anything with it. i can get a new barrel with keys but i cant pull of the ignition without destroyin my dash. so any help would be appriciated. the ignition is in the dash, and the only way to pop it is with the key, that i no of there should be a small nipple around the ignition that falls in a hole in the steering column usally you would need the key and turn it in the on position to pop it out but since you don't have a key use a small punch and tap the hole with a hammer the nipple will force its way in eventually i had same problem on my 85 chevy truck i did this and it finnaly pop out after a couple a whack

My naturally suspicious nature tells me that you have stolen the bike and are just trying to get it going. If you owned the bike, you would KNOW if it had an immobiliser. And the owner would say "I have lost the key"
Take it to a locksmith and hopefully they will realise whats going on and call the cops.
