how much alkaline water should i drink to lose weight? i hear that eating a more alkaline (rather than acidic diet) will help flush out toxins and shrink fat cells, since fat cells get bigger by engulfing acidic toxins to maintain homeostasis (or something like that basically...so u store fat). an alkaline diet is basically eating all raw veggies and some fruit, but i want to continue to enjoy cooked foods and simply eat more raw foods. if i drink a lot of alkaline water, will that still flush the acidity from my body? also, how much should i drink to maintain a more alkaline body to lose weight? thx only answers from ppl who know about the alkaline diet please. no spam (ie. acai or other diet ads). thx You should drink 2-3 liters of alkaline ionized water everyday, and eat not more than 20% acid forming food in your diet.

What kind of water from the store can I use in my tank? The water from my faucet is cloudy, and is a very hard/alkaline water. Itis just lower in nitrate and phosphorus. 2ndly have you tried naturally lowering your ph. Try this places highland rose sandstone for lowering your ph naturally it is very effective and absolutly geourgouse stone. This is the only place I have found that carries stone that adjusts your ph.

is generic gallon spring water good quality? I was buying the ionized alkaline artesian water for a few days, and it felt great, but it's 2-3 times as expensive as the gallon jugs of distilled and spring water. i've read that the distilled water is devoid of minerals, that it's 'too pure'. It will absorb calcium, etc. from your body and out it goes with the urine. I don't know if this is true. I'm no biochemist (yet). So i bought the spring water, the store brand, for a dollar and nineteen cents a gallon. Is this good quality water? is there a difference between different bottled waters labeled spring water? It is bottled in Pennsylvania. I feel fine, but I notice it takes more of this water to hydrate me than the other stuff. I might go with the even cheaper distilled version. I have Concentrace Trace Mineral Drops that I add to the water so I get all the minerals. The water debate I have seen on the internet is very skewed by people who very firmly disagree with one another about which water is best. Where can someone buy alkaline water? I just heard about it and want to try it out. I'm in Los Angeles, don't think I've seen it at the store unless it goes by another name? You can either buy pH drops which you add to your drinking water or you could buy a water ionizer which makes your tap water alkaline.
You can not buy bottled alkaline water in the store, because alkaline water should always be fresh.

What IS alkaline water? OK, Alkaline and de-ionized water. I just bought a gallon from the health food store, because it looked healthy for ya! I could read up on it on the web, but I don't have time/too lazy/, so if you know exactly what this is and why she told me it only holds the negative charge for 24 hours ( in a BPA free bottle), then what good is it? AND What is BPA??? I believe it is very important for people to start to understand the need to detoxify your body of the acid condition that we humans acquire just from everyday living. I have found that AMA. and Drug Companies really protest this information getting out. What would they do if everyone got healthy. They just might lose some money, Ya Think!!!
Anyway, give it a try. I know, it has really worked for me and it will for you. If nothing else, you have some of the best tasting water around. You have everything to gain and nothing to lose.

Best way to store alkaline water? I am lucky enough to have a hook up for Kangen water and am storing it in a big clear glass "jug". I was wondering if anyone knew of a dark jug that they could recommend...with a website would be great! Thanks! I am talking about water that comes out of a Kangen machine...to make it Alkaline. I'm afraid to say that after reading the literature concerning the Kangen machine it's very clear that this device is a hoax :(
Even on the first page of their website http://kangen.net/ , such statements as:
"Ionization changes conventional water from an irregular, bulky shape to a hexagonal shape that saturates the body tissue much more efficiently." is complete rubbish. Others of similar nonsense are: " It is sometimes referred to as micro-clustered water because of its small molecular grouping." and " "These smaller six-sided clusters are much more hydrating and penetrating. They are, therefore, more capable of pushing out the toxins from the body." is again completely untrue.
Apart from containing a charcoal filter that may help to filter out some constituents of your water, the rest of the 'technology' is a scam. They sell for a ridiculous amount of money too, I'm very sorry if you have spent good money on this.

Gabe: If they worked, why do those selling them feel the need to blatantly lie and invent nonsense terminology to separate the public from their money? Looks like you got scammed too and while it's probably very tough for you to admit to it, encouraging someone else to be similarly scammed won't absolve you of your embarrassment.
Hint: Sales sites are never going to be a reliable source of information. It's a sad state of affairs where those that have been scammed cite the scammers sales spiel as evidence that they haven't.
Edit2: Yes Gabe, having spent time as an analytical chemist I have tested the water and (activated carbon filter aside) I know it doesn't make a darn bit of difference. (Actually there's no need to test the water as the pseudo-science behind it is utter BS. It's a bit like saying "how do you know it's not unicorn poop if you haven't tested it?" Seriously.......)
Like I said, it's going to be a bitter pill for you to swallow to admit you were scammed out of $500 for "micro-clustered water" (oh dear....) when a $50 water filter would do the same thing, without shovelling a load of condescending fakery down your throat at the same time.

Why are Group 1 (the Alkaline Metals) stored under oil? How does oil stop the alkaline metals reacting with air and water? Does boiling alkaline water affect its ph? I'm a big fan of drinking ionized alkaline water- I want to use it for teas and soups, but I'm not sure if boiling the alkaline water will affect it's ph balance - does anyone know? Heat changes the physical properties of water not its chemical properties...unless the hydrogen bonds of the molecules break, the water should remain in tact, but in gaseous form. Using pH paper or meter, you can check in the pH of the boiled alkaline water before and after boiling once it has cooled and compare...should be roughly the same.

Very hard and very alkaline tank water? Hardness is off the chart, alkalinity is more than 8. What is the best way to get it back in parameters? This is my first tank since I moved to this town. My old town water never had this problem, so I'm not sure what to do about it. There are no fish stores nearby (I have to travel 30+ miles if Walmart doesn't carry it). I'm making the trip tomorrow to surrender my 2 catfish and Pleco. They aren't eating and deserve better. I'm on a budget, too. No sand, shells, or coral. I'm not stupid! 55 gallon freshwater tank with gravel, 3 large resin aquarium decorations, and some silk plants. I have been keeping fish for years, but this is my first tank since I moved to this town (with it's horrid water supply!), and my first 55 gallon tank, period. I prefer small tropical fish, Bettas, Platies, Cories, etc. I have never had any desire to parent foot-long Catfish and Plecos! I took them because they were a package deal with the tank. It's not everyday someone gives you a complete 55 gallon set-up for free, I couldn't pass it up. However, I do not want to acquire any fish who will suffer under my care. My husband loves the big Catfish, but it's not fair to make him suffer with that water quality, or rather, lack thereof! There are some substrates, such as ADA Amazonia substrate, that will lower the pH and gH.
Mixing Reverse Osmosis with regular water till you get the correct pH and gH is also a great option, although it takes some experimentation to get it exactly where you want it. The only thing is with a 55 gallon you might want to get an RO unit, which can be expensive.
Peat will lower the pH quite a bit. You can put it in the filter, in a filterbag. However, it will also color the water.
Bogwood will lower the pH as well, but will also color the water.
Blackwater extract is essence of peat, but without the dying properties, you can buy that at the petstore.
If you have live plants, you could make a DIY CO2 unit, which if kept on constantly will both lower the pH and fertilize your plants, and won't color the water. If you don't have live plants, I wouldn't do this though. Also, check the kh before doing this, if you have a kh below 4 don't try it. Higher than that will not be a problem.
