Oil, oil, oil...How are gas prices in your area? Within a 30 mile radius of my home (3 towns) the gas prices average between $3.49-$3.75... Our highest prices were around $3.99-$4.10 during the whole $150/barrel surge over the summer. So, we've actually only seen a .25-.50 cent per gallon decline since the price of oil has declined. I'm glad to see diesel prices below $4 in my area, but the diesel reached about $4.89-$4.99 and is now $3.89-$4.01 which is basically a $1/gal decline, but as I stated above we've only seen a .50 cent decline in gasoline. If you had to cut your expenses because of gas prices, what would you cut out? Would you cut cable TV, cable internet, cell phone, dining out, vacation, AAA or other memberships, home improvements, automobile service? What would you cut in your budget first and why? Dining out, I find that would be the easiest to cut. We have not been vacationing for a long time anyway. Magazine Subscriptions, they are not read that often, we will not miss them Clothing, can be cut, until absolutely necessary. Car Wash, better done at home.

How many people gave up their friends because of high gas prices? You know those people that want you to take them everywhere, and want to give you $2, for gas, running a 4.7 liter engine, knowing very well you on a limited income and they having a full time job. What do you think is fair, especially if the driver has to drive, pay maintenance, insurance and AAA tow service. The federal government's accepted mileage reimbursement is 50.5 cents a gallon. It's supposed to cover gas, wear & tear, all that.
Your friends should fork over at least that amount to be fair. If they appreciate your doing them a favor, they should give you more.

Come fall, when the kids head back to school, Mom and Dad are likely to find that a gallon of milk for cereal will cost them more than the gas that got them to the store to buy it. The national average price for the calcium-rich drink that "does a body good" could hit a record $5 a gallon by September, MarketWatch reported Tuesday. The current average price is about $3.50 a gallon nationally, say dairy experts. That's more than the current national average gas price, which is $2.975 a gallon, according to AAA. High fuel prices, drought and a spike in the cost of feed and dairy operations are all kicking up the price of the frothy, white beverage. Booming international sales and last year's lower farm milk prices, which slowed its production in the United States, are adding to the soaring costs. "So many things play into it," said Auburn University dairy expert Boyd Brady. "The price is going to increase a little bit more than what it is right now, that's for sure." At one Alabama Food Mart, a gallon of milk was already going for $4.39 earlier this month. And agriculture experts say that this summer we could see new record highs, with the price of milk shooting up to $4.50. Jim Oberweis, owner of Oberweis Dairy Inc. in North Aurora, Ill., said his company is raising milk prices for the second time this year, by $.10 per half-gallon, The Wall Street Journal reported. The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) predicts that milk production for the remainder of this year will grow by about 1.2 percent, but demand will far outweigh the production increase. Prices of other dairy products like butter and ice cream should also continue to climb as a result of surging milk and cheese prices. Wny would someone mock a good idea at a time of extremely high gas prices? I don't understand why some are laughing at Obama's idea to make sure your tires are properly inflated and your car is tuned up. Along with other good ideas, like reducing your speed on the freeway and not running your air conditioner if you don't have to, his suggestions are approved of by our own government (the Dept. of Transportation), AAA and NASCAR. The May 30 edition of the USA Today reported gas prices were dropping according to two major indicators – the Energy Information Agency (EIA) and the American Automobile Association’s (AAA) fuelgaugereport.com. Gas prices are down nearly a penny according to the EIA and 2.6 cents according to AAA. That isn’t getting reported by many of the major media outlets as they cover fuel prices. In a segment on NBC’s “Today” on May 30, host Meredith Vieira led into a Matt Lauer interview of ConocoPhillips CEO James Mulva. She compared gasoline price per gallon from a month ago and a year ago to the latest AAA numbers. There was no mention of any decline. In the Lauer interview, Mulva suggested heightened gas prices were a result of heightened demand and lowered supply. Yet, Lauer never revealed gas prices had begun to decline. This was typical. In the last several days during the decline, doom and gloom has been the focal point of media coverage. ABC’s “Good Morning America” went into the holiday weekend by airing a two-part series on the hardships of gas prices over last Thursday and Friday. “Today's high gas prices aren't just annoying, they're ruining vacations,” said ABC Correspondent Jessica Yellin during the first of the two parts. Yellin accompanied the Stembergers, a family of five, on a summer road trip from Orlando to Cashiers, N.C. Along the way, Yellin totaled the costs for each stop – itemizing and compiling expenses for food, milk and gasoline. But, at a stop in Gainesville, Fla., the husband John Stemberger paid $26.88 for 7.810 gallons of gas (as shown on the camera at the gas pump) – coming out to be $3.44 a gallon. A quick search for gas prices in the last 36 hours in Gainesville, Fla. indicated the price per gallon ranged from $3.08 to $3.31 a gallon. The mainstream news media have had an infatuation with the coverage of higher gas prices. However, this is just an example of one of the many instances that the news media have dramatized the hardship caused by gas prices and exaggerated increases. CBS outperformed the other networks in that Business & Media Institute study, chiefly by relying on expert comments from Tom Kloza, of the Oil Price Information Service, who took a less hyped approach to prices.
