Is it safe for a 12V Halogen bulb? I'm looking to modify my flashlight to use a halogen bulb. How many volts should I apply if the bulb was rated at12V 20W? Should it be 15 volts or just 12 volts? I = P / E 20W / 12V = 1.7 A
Be sure your batteries can deliver that much current for a reasonable amount of time.
Also, light output of an incandescent bulb is quite dependent on the voltage across the bulb. 9.6V is not good if it is the starting point for further voltage decrease as the battery is exhausted.
Have you considered a LED light?

+9V positive side of the Battery connected to two 10 Ohm resistors which are in parallel, this is then connected in series to the 6V bulb and back to the battery minus.
Given: The light bulb requires 6V, and you know that it has a resistance of 10 Ohms.
so use Ohms Law>
V=I * R
You know V and R, so re-arrange to obtain the current at that condition, I.
V/R=I
So 6V/10 Ohms = 6/10 Amps
Now you know that the battery is 9V, and the light bulb must drop 6V, which leaves 3V to be dropped by the other resistors.
9V-6V=3V
So you need to find out, what resistor will drop the extra 3V.
You know the Voltage is 3V, and the current through the bulb must be the same through this collection of resistors (grouped together), so the current is the same I = 6/10 Amps.
Use Ohms Law
V=I*R
(3V/1)/(6/10) = R
30/6=5 Ohms
You need a 5 Ohm resistor, but only have 10 Ohm resistors.
So if you use two 10 Ohm resistors in parallell, you can achieve 5 Ohms.
Resistors in parallel
1/( 1/R1 + 1/R2) = Rparallel
R1 and R2 both =10 Ohms
1/( 1/10 + 1/10) = Rp
1/(2/10)=Rp
1/(1/5)=Rp the first 1, can be re-written as 1=(1/1)
(1/1)/(1/5)=Rp
5=Rp
The 5 Ohms at the 6/10 Amp current drop 3V, leaving 6V from the 9V battery

Flashlight voltage question.? Would a AA to D converter with 4 AA's be superior to high capacity D batteries in a 4D maglite with an LED upgrade that takes a high voltage application? 6-24 volts operating voltage for bulb If you are after weight reduction, that is a good route to go.
But if you are after runtime, the 4 D cells will last much longer. As a very rough rule of thumb, the energy stored in either set of batteries is proportional to the weight of the set (assuming both use the same technology, e.g. alkaline), so the D-cell version will last much longer. Plus, the converter is less than 100% efficient, so that will drain the AA's even faster.

Battery capacity is dependent on rate of discharge; the higher the rate, the less total capacity. Suppose your LEDs draw 250mA from the AA's, and 200mA from the D's.

I need a 6 volt halogen flashlight bulb. Can you help find one? I need a halogen flashligh bulb that is an actual 5.9 or 6 volt bulb at the very least. battery combination for 18 volt flashlight bulb? Maximum voltage input for an 18 volt flashlight lamp? I am attempting to build a homemade flashlight. I have purchased a few Dewalt brand, xenon 18 volt, 10.5 watt flashlight bulbs. My question is, "What combination of batteries, such as two 9-volt batteries, twenty-four 1.5-volt batteries, three 6-volt etc. would be the best for getting the brightest possible light beam out of these bulbs?" I suppose this would require getting the correct combination of watts, volts & amps, but I'm hoping someone out there can give the the number & type of batteries that would be best for powering these bulbs. I have tried using two 9-volt alkaline batteries, but this did not produce a very bright beam. Please help! For all practical purposes, the larger the battery pack, I am talking weight to make this simple, the longer the burn time on the lamp.
Example 12 AAA batteries have less amp hour capacity than 12 D batteries .
Both will provide 18 volts.

The AAA pack weighs less than the D pack.
The D pack will last longer than the AAA pack.
So, how much weight do you want to pack.
The proper voltage, regardless of how you achieve it from any combination of batteries will give the maximum brightness.
The 18 volt Dewalt zenon bulb at 10.5 watts will draw 0.583 amps.
I am not sure what the amp hour capacity of a D cell is, but I do not thank it can put out 0.583 amps for very long.
The three 6 volt lantern batteries would be a better choice.
How about the Dewalt 18 volt rechargeable battery the lamps were made to run on?

The AAA battery can put out 0.625 amps for about one hour.
that would run your 0.583 amp lamp for just a little over one hour.
The D cell can putput 20.5 amps for one hour.
Doing the math, 20.5 devided by0.583 gives you about 35 hours of battery life.
The 9 volt battery is not listed on the chart.
12 AAA batteries = 1 hour.
12 D batteries === 35 hours
There is a lanten battery at the bottom of the chart than can output 52 amps for one hour.
3 of those lantern batteries would give you about 89 hours.
I hope that I got the math correct.
I would still suggest the rechargable Dewalt 18 volt battery as your best bet.

How to convert a 6 volt flashlight into a 5 volt line? I've got a webcam with a flashlight on it. The light bulb is a little LED, on 5 volts. It's not very bright- I can't see anything. So I want to replace it with the light bulb(s) I have from a little flashlight. The flashlight is three LEDs, running on 6 volts. Can they run effeciently, one volt short? they would work but they would be dim. just get you a superbright 5 volt led. try radioshack. heck if it was me i would just tape the flashlight on it.

How do I power a 9 LED flashlight which runs on 3 1.5v aaa batteries with a 7.6v NiMh recharable battery pack? Where to find LED light bulbs? I am planning a project that needs at least two [bright] led lights (the small ones you see in led flashlights), a 9-volt battery, and a switch. My problem is, I can't seem to figure out where to get some leds (yes, i've looked to my flashlight but i'm not sure if they are bright enough).
