battery combination for 18 volt flashlight bulb? Maximum voltage input for an 18 volt flashlight lamp? I am attempting to build a homemade flashlight. I have purchased a few Dewalt brand, xenon 18 volt, 10.5 watt flashlight bulbs. My question is, "What combination of batteries, such as two 9-volt batteries, twenty-four 1.5-volt batteries, three 6-volt etc. would be the best for getting the brightest possible light beam out of these bulbs?" I suppose this would require getting the correct combination of watts, volts & amps, but I'm hoping someone out there can give the the number & type of batteries that would be best for powering these bulbs. I have tried using two 9-volt alkaline batteries, but this did not produce a very bright beam. Please help! For all practical purposes, the larger the battery pack, I am talking weight to make this simple, the longer the burn time on the lamp.
Example 12 AAA batteries have less amp hour capacity than 12 D batteries .
Both will provide 18 volts.

The AAA pack weighs less than the D pack.
The D pack will last longer than the AAA pack.
So, how much weight do you want to pack.
The proper voltage, regardless of how you achieve it from any combination of batteries will give the maximum brightness.
The 18 volt Dewalt zenon bulb at 10.5 watts will draw 0.583 amps.
I am not sure what the amp hour capacity of a D cell is, but I do not thank it can put out 0.583 amps for very long.
The three 6 volt lantern batteries would be a better choice.
How about the Dewalt 18 volt rechargeable battery the lamps were made to run on?

The AAA battery can put out 0.625 amps for about one hour.
that would run your 0.583 amp lamp for just a little over one hour.
The D cell can putput 20.5 amps for one hour.
Doing the math, 20.5 devided by0.583 gives you about 35 hours of battery life.
The 9 volt battery is not listed on the chart.
12 AAA batteries = 1 hour.
12 D batteries === 35 hours
There is a lanten battery at the bottom of the chart than can output 52 amps for one hour.
3 of those lantern batteries would give you about 89 hours.
I hope that I got the math correct.
I would still suggest the rechargable Dewalt 18 volt battery as your best bet.

Question about low voltage landscape lighting? I am going to be installing low voltage landscape lights. The fixture that was picked out is a Malibu 12 volt with an 11 watt bulb. The only problem is I'm not sure how much light the 11 watt bulb will put out. Is it okay to change it to a 18 watt bulb. I am not going to be using a Malibu transformer. I will be using a 900 watt multi tap transformer, so capacity is not an issue. You can use the 18 watt. the 11 watt is pretty bright. Your transformer can handle it so go for it. I dont like the ones that are 4-6 watts because they look so cheap.

How do hook up a solar panel to a light bulb? Its a 18 volt light bulb and my panel supplies 24 volts But why would you want to? If the sun shines, you don't need the light and if it doesn't shine (which is when you do need the light) then the bulb won't light.
Maybe you need the solar panel to charge a battery?
If you do, then you need a 18v battery (and maybe a charge controller so you don't over charge the battery).

Where to find a blue light bulb for an ambulance.? I am searching for a light bulb for a military ambulance. The bulb needs to be blue and comparable to a GE 4825( par 36, 4.5" diameter,28 volts, 18 watts). A red bulb can not be used because you can not see blood as well under red light. Electrical question what wattage light buld to buy? Here’s one. A simple home wiring circuit. One lamp with a 60 watt bulb all new stuff nothing abnormal. 120 volts running a 60 watt bulb should pull .5 Amps. ( I ) = P(60) / E(120) so I=.5 right? So since resistance is figured by R = E / I then the resistance of the bulb should be 240 ohms. 240 = 120 / .5 right? Even if you don’t use, I , then R = E square / P . 14400/60=240 right? This say that the bulb is not labeled and you want to know what size to replace it with. Take a meter and measure the resistance of a standard 60 watt bulb. Average is 18.5 ohms I did it with 3 different type bulbs and two different meters By Ohms law P=E square / R so 14400/18.5 =778.37 so if all you knew was the resistance of the bulb and the voltage available would you go out and buy 778 watt replacement? Be very careful. Ohm's Law refers to DC power. Light bulbs are used in AC power applications in which the voltage constantly changes from -60v thru 0v up to +60v and back.
DC voltage can only be determined after rectifying and filtering and will be 65% of one cycle of AC. One cycle is 60v, 65% is 39v. Filtering uses reactive components, requiring trigonometry to calculate, which reduces real voltage even further. So eventually you end up with 34v in DC level.
Like you said, E squared over R ( 1156/18.5) gives 62 watts. AC power is a whole nother study on top of DC electricity. Cosines, vector arithmetic, power factors, etc.

LED Equivalent of this Light Bulb? 12 volt, 18 watt bulbs that I have, I would like to find an LED equivalent for. These are very small halogen (xenon?) bulbs that produce a fair amount of light, only about one inch (1") long. Physics question! about resistance and current in a circuit! HELP PLEASE? Three lamps are in a circuit, connected to an 18 volt battery.The 3.2 ohm lamp is in a series with the other two lamps( which are in parallel) if the two lamps in parallel are1.1 and 2.7 ohms, what is the current of the 2.7 ohm bulb? The answer should be in amps, i can't get the right answer! You need to remember a couple of things for this.
First, V = IR - voltage is equal to the current multiplied by the resistance.
Second, for resistors in series, R(total) = R1 + R2 + R3 etc
Third, for resistors in parallel, 1/R(total) = 1/R1 + 1/R2 + 1/R3 etc

The total resistance is therefore found by finding the resistance in the parallel section and adding it to the other resistor.
1/R = 1/1.1 + 1/2.7
R = 0.78 ohms (parallel section)
Total R is therefore 0.78 + 3.2 = 3.98 ohms
Using V = IR, 18/3.98 = I so total current is 4.52A.
In series, the current is the same through all the components, so the current for the parallel block is 4.52A. The voltage is 4.52x0.78 which is 3.52V for the parallel block.
As voltage is constant for a components in parallel, the equation V = IR applies
so
3.52 = 2.7 x I
I = 1.30A

Be aware that with resistor networks - like this one - it isn't as simple as just using V = IR, so be careful!

18 volts instead of 12 volts? I have a neon light, from the light it connects directly into a transformer that puts out 1500V/ 15mA. Originally it was supposed to plug into a cigarette lighter in a car but i snipped the wire because I don't want the wiring to be visible. However I don't have a 12volt battery so I have been using (2) 9V batteries hooked up in a series which plugs directly into the transformer that is intended for 12V. Question is, am I damaging the bulb? The bulb can take any voltage, but you may end up burning out the transformer if you run it at a higher voltage than recommended.

A 0.20 W bulb and a 0.40 W bulb are connected in series to a 18-volt power supply....?
